I picked up this necromancer tunic between Ventari's and Aurora Glade, originally. I later found an upgraded version in the desert.

What the hell is it?

I'm a bit confused to what you are asking. You get upgraded versions of the same armor throughout the game.. and you will get another at droknars.

Collector armours have different graphics from any of the sets normally available.

I'm playing with a female necro, and I think it's mixed combination of Necromancer's and Fanatic's sets.
It looks like the tunic is from the collector's Necromancer set and the other parts are from Fanatic's.

I'm wondering about the tunic.

I didn't realize Collector's handed out "special" armor.

If that's the case, then there's my answer.

Hmm, it seems I got too excited of knowing something and thus read the first post carelessly.
I read it again and saw that the matter was about the tunic, not the whole set... sorry!

I checked the Necromancer's tunic that is sold and it looks different. I
put it attached here.

So, the tunic given by the collector it is. It looks really nice... too bad it doesn't have any special attributes
(or at least the one I once had didn't have).

If it's confirmed that it's collector armor, which collector gives it?

It's Collector's.

I've confirmed it.

I forget the specific location of the one between Ventari's and Aurora (some guy in a cave?), but the collector in the Desert is.. uh.. crap.. I forgot his name too.

Someone the Rich.

He's the collector outside of Amnoon standing in the riverbed. Takes five losaru manes.

If it's too far, try for the one near Ventari's.

While you're walking to Aurora Glade from Ventari's, can't miss the collector in some cave.
